Journal of Equity in Youth Leadership Development

Mission

The mission of the Journal of Equity in Youth Leadership Development (JEYLD) is to facilitate the dissemination of research related to equitable policies and practices regarding youth leadership and youth development in the United States and other regions of the world. Although the journal is the primary publication of EAI, manuscripts submitted by both members and nonmembers of the organization will be considered for publication.

Articles, conference proceedings

Articles for consideration should not be previously published and can employ a variety of methodologies including quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods studies and conceptual, theoretical, policy, and systematic analyses. JEYLD is a double-blind peer-reviewed academic journal with editorial decisions typically made within two months of submission, based on the reviews of two to three members of the editorial board.

JEYLD publishes original research, literature reviews, implementation and evaluation studies, and theoretical, conceptual, and policy papers that contribute to our understanding of the issues, problems, and research associated with youth leadership and youth development.

Manuscript Submission and Publication Guidelines: 

Manuscripts should be submitted as an email attachment to journaleyld@gmail.com. JEYLD typically completes reviews of original and revised manuscripts within four to six three months of submission. Our editorial board is comprised of researchers from across the globe who have extensive leadership, youth leadership, and youth development research and practice experience. All submitted manuscripts will undergo a thorough internal review regarding alignment with our Aims and Scope before being sent for external review. Online submissions must adhere to the following submission guidelines:

Manuscript Submission Guidelines

  1. Manuscripts should be formatted for 8 ½ x 11″ paper. Margins should be one inch on all sides.
  2. Follow the style guidelines of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th ed.).
  3. Justify margins on the left side only. Do not justify margins on both sides.
  4.  Double-space the entire document, including the bibliography.
  5. Include a 100-word abstract.
  6. Within the text, use parenthetical references following APA style. All references in the reference listing should be cited in the text. All references in the text should be cited in the references.
  7. Do not include the author’s name or other identifying information in the header, footer, or text of the document. Authors should use a separate page to send her/his contact information, including mailing address, phone, and fax numbers, and email address on a separate page.
  8. Contributing authors’ information – mailing address, phone, and fax numbers, and email address – should be included with the primary author’s information.
  9. All documents should be submitted in PDF and MS Word format.
  10. Manuscripts should not exceed 8000 words, including references, abstracts, and tables/figures.

Publication Guidelines

Before the publication of any manuscript, authors are obliged to sign a copyright agreement with the Journal of Equity in Youth Leadership Development in accordance with U.S. Copyright laws effective January 1978.  Under the agreement, authors agree willingly to transfer copyright to the Journal of Equity in Youth Leadership Development which will, however, freely grant the author the right to reprint his or her article, if published in the author’s own works. 

Authors of manuscripts accepted for publication will be sent a separate set of guidelines for submission to the publisher
